Victorian Taille d’Epargn Enamel Bangle in 10k

An elegant Victorian bangle circa 1880, crafted in 10k yellow gold with a stippled texture behind intricate taille d’epargn or black tracery enamel work. The stylized floral motif includes pansies, wheat sheaves, and ivy- traditional references to love, devotion, marriage and fidelity. This was possibly a mourning bangle, but not all of these black enameled pieces were meant as memorials, so it’s also possible this was part of a pair of “wedding bangles”, which were traditionally gifts to the bride from the groom.

Details:An oval shape 3/8″ wide, measuring approximately 2 1/4″ by 1 3/4 across the inside diameter with an interior circumference of approximately 6 1/8″, so best for a small wrist. The hinge is sturdy and the box clasp secure. Not marked for gold content but XRF tests to 10k. Weighs approximately 15 grams.

Condition:In excellent condition with a gentle patina, and a couple of light dings on the inside of the bangle but no obvious dents or scratches to mar the outside surface. There is a small hole on one side of the edge near the clasp, likely where a safety chain was atttached. The enamel appears complete and all original.
