Antique Chain with Baroque Pearl Stations

Circa 1900, along yellow gold-filled watch or guard chain featuring eleven genuine baroque pearl stations. Perfect for layering with other chains or beads, as well as an interesting way to hold your favorite locket or charms; it can also be worn doubled by clipping the clasp to a loose section of chain to achieve the desired swag.

History: This type of long chain was known in the 19th century as a guard or lorgnettechain, sometimes made inlengths of 60″ or more; they were used by ladies to hold utilitarian items like watches, spectacles or hand muffs, with the longerlength allowing some freedom of movement.
